'People are saying, why can't the public broadcaster be a government channel?'

| Sunday, September 7, 2014 |

Union minister for information and broadcasting Prakash Javadekar tells Shuma Raha that AIR could be turned into a news agency, that 'FMisation' of many medium wave radio channels is underway, and that the DD and AIR archives are to be monetised

Prakash Javadekar rarely loses his good humour. Not even when he is in the thick of back-to-back meetings and has to squeeze a media interview in between. When I am finally ushered into his sprawling ministerial chambers in Delhi's Byzantine sarkari power centre, Shastri Bhavan, I find him surrounded by men with files. His private secretary attempts to escort me out again, but Javadekar looks up, smiles and says, "No, no, let her stay. You can see me in action."
