Doordarshan, which is often criticised for being conservative as far as airing shows are concerned, is likely to break out of its rigid casing. The information and broadcasting ministry is now taking a favourable view of airing shows with adult content for mature audiences.
Sources said the view to allow content suitable for mature audiences emerged following a meeting with members of the censor board recently. It is understood that the Central Board for Film Certification had at the high-level meeting floated the thought that Doordarshan, the national broadcaster, needs to update its content as far as serving every strata of society is concerned.
Unlike currently, where it refuses to air any programme with even a whiff of adult content, Doordarshan did have a dedicated slot on ....................
