CBI sentences former DD chief to 3 years for bribery

LUCKNOW: Central Bureau of Investigation judge Surendra Singh on Monday sentenced former Doordarshan director Prabhu Jhingranwith three years jail term in connection with a bribery case. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1.10 lakh on the convict.

The court, however, released him on interim bail to enable him to approach the high court against the verdict. The court observed in its order that a public servant taking bribe was a serious offence against the society as a whole. No leniency can be shown to such offenders, it added.
