SUMMARY
What has got many intrigued is the interest shown by people from unrelated fields to get appointed to this post.

A scientest, a professor in a Hindi University, an Income Tax Commissioner, and even a chargesheeted Doordarshan news correspondent are in the fray to be appointed as the next Director General of Doordarshan.

The term of the present DG Tripurari Sharan, a 1985-batch Bihar cadre IAS officer comes to an end this month and the hunt for his successor is already on. However, the fact that the Prasar Bharati Board — which will select the next Doordarshan DG — is itself working without a Chairperson, Member (Finance), Member (Personnel) and three of the six Part Time Members is something the new government will have to tackle first.

What has got many intrigued is the interest shown by people from unrelated fields to get appointed to this post. Those who have applied include an Adviser-cum-Scientist from Department of Science & Technology and a Director/Professor from Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, Wardha. Further, a DD news correspondent who's been charged with "exhibiting gross indiscipline and insubordination" and has not reported to work for almost two years, too, has applied for the job, sources told The Indian Express.
