An unusual excavation of radio and TV documentaries from the Films Division archive
On 5 October, Films Division's weekly event FD Zone will bring back memories of the days when all we had to while away the time were All India Radio and Doordarshan.
FD Zone hosts weekly showings of specially programmed documentaries and short films from a variety of sources, including the Films Division archive and independent film-makers, at the government organization's headquarters in Mumbai. The latest programme covers a fascinating set of documentaries from the FD vault on the history of Indian broadcasting in the decades before satellite television. The 10 films, which were made between the 1950s and the 1970s, provide information and insights into the production of government propaganda as well as the cinematic artistry that survived the agenda to showcase the state's achievements.
