After wrapping up the oldest Yuv-Vani Service (Voice of Youth) of All India Radio across India (AIR), AIR is likely to wind up more channels, commercials and transmissions in coming days as it is facing acute shortage of man power not only in Kashmir but throughout India.
According to the officials, after facing shortage of resources, revenues and recruitments, AIR was bound to end Yuv-Vani program.
The program will not be aired from June 1 this year, officials said on Saturday.
The Yuv-Vani service was launched in July 21, 1969 on 1017 kHz.
Aspiring writers and radio artists perturbed by the closing of program had accused authorities of leaving them jobless.
However, the authority maintained that they will be accommodated in a new extension program which will be aired between 6 pm to 9 pm in evening transmission.
Director Radio Kashmir Rukhsana Jabeen told Rising Kashmir that they will be accommodating only the endowed candidates while the rest will be dropped.
“It is impossible to accommodate all the workers of Yuv-Vani but we will try our best to accommodate those with good caliber,” Jabeen said.
She further added that new program has not been initiated but an extension of evening transmission has been done in which the Yuv-Vani workers would be engaged.
On why the program was wound up by AIR, Jabeen said that the corporate was facing acute shortage of manpower all over India.
“Had there been new recruitments and promotions in time, the sector would not have faced the jolt. But the positive point here is that these things have not affected the popularity of AIR,” Jabeen added.
She further informed that AIR is looking for more channels, commercials and transmissions to end those programs which are proving fruitless to the corporate.
“But it is not on the papers yet. Few channels will be either closed or mixed with other channels.”
Jabeen further stated that now youth related programs shall be broadcasted daily on FM 103.5 from 6 p.m to 7 p.m.7-8 will be the primary relay including Sheharbeen and news and from 8 p.m to 9 p.m, the youth related programs shall be broadcasted.
“People have stopped applying in this field as there are many employees in Radio Kashmir who have not been promoted for 22-24 years and are still on the same post,” she said.
Moreover, the order issued by Director All India Radio noted that all the stations across India should stop its transmission by the beginning of next month.
Jabeen confirmed that they have received an order in this regard to stop its transmission.
Yuv-Vani service of Radio Kashmir, Srinagar that is being transmitted on short wave particularly targets youth community and highlights its issues and problems.
The issue of order has drawn major reshuffle in the administration within radio Kashmir and has started with most of the senior producers being transferred from one section to other.
