The Indian Government is to install eight terrestrial television transmitters along the country's border with Nepal, which could enable the broadcast Doordarshan content to 65% of the population of Nepal.
The Union Cabinet has also approved the expansion of Doordarshan's direct-to-home (DTH) satellite TV network from 59 to 97 channels, and subsequently 59 to 97 channels, as well as installing 23 digital terrestrial TV (DTT) transmitters. In addition, it will provide funds to update the infrastructure for the state radio broadcaster AIR.
