With not even a single FM station based in Ludhiana, the city will soon witness its first FM station making its entry. Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Member of the Parliament from Ludhiana, Manish Tewari, on Saturday cleared the decks for the first FM station in the city. The FM station will be operated under the All India Radio (AIR) for the city.

As per AIR sources, Ludhiana Gold FM will soon start operations in city and will be heard at 100.1 frequency. Till now only Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata have Gold FM functional. Ludhiana will be the first in Punjab and fifth in India to have FM station under AIR. As per sources, BSNL office in Transport Nagar will initially be used as the broadcasting station till the setup is ready.

Sources from Congress said that all the formalities have been completed and services are expected to start by August 16.

FM station under AIR is also expected to act as a medium for publicising the policies of the UPA government and especially Manish Tewari and act as an image builder for the UPA in Ludhiana. Pawan Dewam, district president, Congress, told The Indian Express, "Yes, we are getting FM station under AIR to Ludhiana. We prefer to reveal other details later."
