Ludhiana is set to get its first FM radio station on August 16. Union minister for information and broadcasting Manish Tewari on Saturday cleared the decks for the first FM station in the city. The FM station, Ludhiana FM Gold, will be heard at 100.1 frequency and operated under the All India Radio (AIR).

Ludhiana will be the first in Punjab and fifth in India to have a FM station under the AIR. As per sources, BSNL office in Transport Nagar will initially be used as the broadcasting station till the setup is ready.

Till now only Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and Kolkata have Gold FM functional.

Opening of the FM radio station here would not only provide information and entertainment to city residents and those in the surrounding areas, but will also create a lot of employment opportunities for the local youth. The local artistes are enthusiastic about the station as it will provide them a platform to perform.
