Committee to Discuss Paid News complaint

Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar on Saturday said his office had received a complaint regarding ‘paid news’ and that the media committee would discuss it in the meeting scheduled for April 1.

Addressing a press conference at the Secretariat, the CEO said the media committee was headed by him and comprised representatives from Doordarshan, All India Radio and an independent journalist.

Asked to name the media involved in the complaint, the CEO said, “The complaint was lodged by an individual belonging to a political party. I don’t want to disclose the name of the media house against which the complaint has been made.”

The CEO said if the charge is proved, it would be reported to the Press Council of India or Broadcasting Council of India for further action. The entire expenditure involved would be added to the expenditure of the candidate concerned.

Manka to perform at Colombo

Imphal, March 28, 2014: Manka Mayanglambam, a young folk music artist, daughter of Mayanglambam Mangangsana of Keisamthong Keithel has been selected by Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union to perform in the ABU music festival 2014. Manka will perform on the May 23, 2014 at Colombo, Sri Lanka where she will be singing the Manipuri folk song (stylised) "Tamla Loibi ".

One can listen to her on the ABU website as well.

Manka was among the 12 finalists selected from 16 entries from various countries under ABU and she was one of the two selected from India.

Her entry was sent by All India Radio Imphal through All India Radio Directorate, New Delhi.

Aizawl (Mizonews.Net): The North East Traditional Music Festival organised by All India Radio (AIR), Aizawl, was successfully held here today.

The cultural event, the first of its kind, was held at Vanapa Hall – the largest auditorium in Aizawl.

Cultural troupes comprising of singers, musicians and performing artistes from all the seven states – Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura, except Sikkim, participated and showcased their traditional musical instruments, their traditional dances and songs.

Celebrating the works of the earliest known Sanskrit dramatist, Bhasa, AIR Pune, will be airing a special audio serial scripted by a BORI scholar

In a bid to bring in a new ‘wave’ of interest into precious ancient literature, a scholar associated with the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute (BORI) is seeing the culmination of more than a year of work — a special audio serial scripted by him based on the works of the earliest known Sanskrit dramatist, Bhasa, is to be aired by the All India Radio (AIR), Pune starting April 7, a little more than 100 years after the litterateur’s plays were re-discovered by Indian scholar T Ganapatishashtri in 1912.

Dr Shreenand Bapat has scripted the 13-episode audio serial based on Bhasa’s works

All India Radio’s national broadcasts of live recordings from the 167th Tyagaraja Aradhana at Thiruvaiyaru brought the scent of the festival to listeners.

All India Radio, in a special programme “Ravivaria Akil Bhartiya Sangeeth Sabha”, some time back, broadcast the live recordings of two Carnatic music concerts from the 167th Sadguru Tyagaraja Aradhana Festival which was held at Thiruvaiyaru, where the saint composer Tyagaraja attained samadhi. The emphasis in the music recitals during this festival is on the compositions of Tyagaraja, through brief raga alapanas and neraval to bring out the lyrical value of these compositions. Music lovers also, who gather at the Aradhana, pay great attention to the lyrical values. Unlike in other regular concerts, the emphasis is also on the mathematics in swara singing. AIR has been broadcasting such live recordings for the past many years. The other highlight of these broadcasts is to hear the group rendering of the famous five ‘Pancharatna’ kritis — in the ragas Nattai, Gowla, Arabhi, Varali and Sri — by innumerable musicians gathered like pilgrims at the venue.

India’s national public radio broadcaster ‘All India Radio’ aired a nine-minute special programme featuring Bangladesh on latter’s Independence Day on Wednesday.

The 9-minute documentary relayed at about 4.30pm under its ‘India Global’ programme on FM Gold, highlighted Bangladesh’s natural vastness as well as its emerging economies, birth in 1971 and its relations with India.


‘All India Radio’, also known as Akashbani, helped to generate global supports for Bangladesh’s war of independence with its reports of heroic struggle of freedom fighters in 1971.

India was the first country to recognise Bangladesh immediately after its independence on Mar 26, 1971.

For Shyam Benegal's 10-part series on the making of the Indian constitution, Samvidhaan, which airs on Rajya Sabha TV, costume designer Pia Benegal underwent meticulous research based on archived photographs, newspaper clippings, documentaries and also interviews on All India Radio.

After all, the task was to recreate historical figures including the likes of Dr. Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlala Nehru, Sardar Patel. When informed about a project, Pia quickly formed a team consisting of two assistants, four stylists and six tailors, who began working on the project six months prior to the shoot.

Galli Galli Sim Sim, one of the oldest shows, and arguably the only muppet show in India, is struggling to get its share in the Indian television market. A quick look at where the property stands.

Galli Galli Sim Sim (GGSS), a muppet show for pre-schoolers in India, has entered its sixth season on Doordarshan.

Sesame Workshop, the company that owns the property, has also ventured into a chain of pre-schools in India in 2013. Having opened 15 operational schools in less than a year, the company plans to touch the 350 school mark in next five years.
