New Delhi, Feb 8: Married at the age of 12, Noor Jahan became a widow at the age of 20 with three children to look after. Going against the advice of relatives and neighbours in her Sangli village of Maharashtra, Noor decided not to remarry and instead eke out a living by doing household chores for others. She also had to face criticism for her decision to cast off her burqa. Noor and several women like her are featured on the women-centric show, "Stree Shakti" a one-hour programme on DD National that portrays women, who have gone through difficulties to become achievers in their own right.
