NEW DELHI: With the controversy surrounding Doordarshan's Narendra Modi interview refusing to die down, Prasar Bharati CEO Jawhar Sircar today said the issue related to the autonomy of the public broadcaster is in the public domain and added he and his team had been trying to put the house in order for the past two years.
"Our job is to put our house in order first, which the board and my team are trying so hard for nearly two years," SircarBSE -1.27 % told PTI when asked about the steps Prasar Bharati is planning take in the wake of the controversy.
Prasar Bharati supervises the functioning of Doordarshan and All India Radio.
"Regarding autonomy, the issue is in public domain now and we have correspondence on each issue, with refusals, on record," he said.
DD had on April 26 interviewed BJP's prime ministerial candidate Modi at Gandhinagar and then telecast it the next day.
However, remarks made by Modi on Priyanka Gandhi and his claims of proximity with senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel were edited out by DD, but became public through the social media, triggering a row.
Sircar had himself written a letter to Prasar Bharati board members, saying that following the interview questions had been raised about the "impartiality" of the public broadcaster.

New Delhi: Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari has come out strongly against allegations that an interview of BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, recently telecast on Doordarshan, was censored.
"The autonomy of Parasar Bharati is guaranteed by the Parliament. Prasar Bharati is a board run organisation and the Information and Broadcast Ministry has an arms-length relationship with it," Mr Tewari said this afternoon.

New Delhi: The decision on whether a probe is needed or not into the row surrounding an interview of BJP leader Narendra Modi by Doordarshan will be taken by Prasar Bharati on Monday.
"We will look at papers on Monday and take a call," Prasar Bharati CEO Jawhar Sircar told PTI when asked if the public broadcaster was planning to initiate an inquiry.
Prasar Bharati supervises the functioning of Doordarshan and the All India Radio.

On World Press Freedom Day, Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP's) prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi took a veiled dig at the Congress-led Union government over the long-debated issue of Doordarshan's autonomy.

In a hard-hitting letter, Prasar Bharati CEO Jawhar Sircar Friday acknowledged that certain portions of the Narendra Modi interview on Doordarshan "were apparently edited" and pointed a finger at Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari for failing to grant "operational autonomy" to the public broadcaster that it has been seeking for years.
Sircar, who in the past too has taken on the minister over interference in functioning of Prasar Bharati, pointed to the interference the government can have in the form of transfers, appointments and punitive actions regarding Prasar Bharati officials.

A row erupted today over reports that Doordarshan had "censored" Narendra Modi's interview, with BJP alleging that it was due to government "pressure" even as the public broadcaster insisted that there was no interference by any authority or any "deliberate omission".
The government also denied any hand in the alleged omission of the part of the interview in which Modi is believed to have said that Priyanka Gandhi was like his daughter, arguing that Prasar Bharati, which runs DD, is autonomous. "Prasar Bharti is an independent body. ..Somewhere pressure has been exerted and the interview has been censorred and cut," BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman told a press conference here. "It is a shame, when at one point of time Congress party speaks about freedom of speech, there is still space for censor and Congress party is misusing this power," she said, adding "either the Prasar Bharati or the Information and Broadcasting Ministry should "answer".

Did the BJP's prime ministerial candidate say Priyanka Gandhi was 'like his daughter' in an interview to Doordarshan, only to have it cut out in the final edit of the interview?
The national public broadcaster had interviewed Narendra Modi on 26 April and it was telecast on 27 April, reportedly with little promotion, unlike other channels that have managed to get an interview with him.
The Times of India quoted unnamed sources as saying that 'considerable time' was spent editing the interview and as a measure of 'abundant caution' the bit about Priyanka Gandhi was edited out.
Modi had reportedly said during the course of the interview that Priyanka Gandhi was like his daughter and he did not consider her................

NEW DELHI: The interview of BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi's by public broadcaster Doordarshan was hit by controversy on Wednesday with speculation that some portions — for instance, where the Gujarat leader says Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was "like his daughter" — were edited out. The interview was telecast on April 27, nearly two days after it was recorded, following a buzz in social media that it was being dropped.
According to sources, the interview was recorded on April 26 morning and was telecast at 9.30pm on April 27 in a programme called Khas Mulaqat with barely any promotions or teasers.

Narendra Modi's interview on Doordarshan that was telecast earlier this week was held back for three days before it went on air.
A top Doordarshan officer was miffed by the fact that the correspondent who had interviewed the BJP's prime ministerial candidate had already tweeted about the national broadcaster's prized telecast.
The interview eventually went on air after the intervention of higher authorities.

New Delhi: The versatile Aamir Khan, who is generally known to shun the public glare and media interviews, will be interviewed live by All India Radio from its Mumbai studios tomorrow.
