Late Rituparno Ghosh's last film, an impressionistic documentary on the life of Rabindranath Tagore, will have its television premiere tomorrow.
"Jeevan Smriti: Selected Memories", produced by the Ministry of Culture, will be screened on Doordarshan national network, coinciding with Tagore's death anniversary.
The film is divided into chapters arranged chronologically but not as a continuous flow. It focuses on some key journeys in Tagore's life that evolved and enriched his quest to re-imagine a new India, which would rise above narrow patriotic concerns prevailing in the country of the time.

The banner of Bharat Ek Khoj outside Doordarshan Kendra at Worli is proof that Shyam Benegal's epic television series, even after more than 20 years, remains one of the best advertisements of Indian television of the yore, when DD defined television for India. A screen adaptation of Jawaharlal Nehru's Discovery of India, it is one of the last achievements of the state-run channel that lost out to privatisation over the years. It was also Benegal's last television project.
Now, however, Benegal will return to Indian television with Samvidhan, on yet another state-run channel, Rajya Sabha TV. A mini-series, it is, as its name suggests, based on the Indian Constitution.

"It is a story of a young girl who grows up to be a well-aware citizen and aims to illuminate her village using non-conventional energy through wind power. All India Radio will broadcast a serial which will highlight merits of UPA government's schemes through its narrative.
"Priya" will be the second such serial as the AIR is already broadcasting "Jamunia" which too follows a similar theme.
In a statement issued here, AIR said that "Priya" is a story of a poor but courageous young women protagonist, who fights against all odds, bringing the village folk together, generating awareness in them in the modern context.
The objective of this serial is to make rural people aware of various welfare schemes like MNREGA, mid-day meal, educational loans, property rights of women, digitisation of land records, rural health schemes, ..........................................

New Delhi, Aug. 2: Doordarshan (DD) has lined up a Hindi regional channel each in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan with sources saying they are part of the Centre's efforts to reach out to the Hindi heartland ahead of elections.
Assembly polls are due in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan later this year, followed by the general election next summer, and the 24X7 channels will help public broadcaster Prasar Bharati spread word about the UPA government's "policies and schemes" among the people, the sources said.
While the channels in Bihar and Madhya Pradesh have already gone on air, the other two will start on August 15.

LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) - The IOC has sold broadcasting rights in India for the 2014 and 2016 Olympics, even as the country is suspended from the Olympic movement.
The International Olympic Committee says STAR India acquired exclusive rights in India, plus Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The value was not disclosed.
The package includes the 2014 Sochi Winter Games, the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games and the 2014 Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China.
For the 2012 London Games, Indian public broadcaster Doordarshan had rights.....................

NEW DELHI: The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) has decided to hitch on to DD Direct Plus, the country's only free to air direct-to-home platform. The channel has also decided to collaborate with Prasar Bharati in other fields like archives and indigenous and classical music for both television and radio.
This was stated by both Prasar Bharati chief executive officer Jawhar Sircar and ABC CEO Lynley Marshall during a discussion prior to the formal signing of a memorandum of understanding with Doordarshan.
